Hi, my name is Serena I am fourteen years old, and I live in a small town called Pahoa on the big island of Hawaii. With the support of my family, I am opening a new and used bookstore on March 1 to better innovate my community. This will be the only bookstore in Pahoa and the five towns surrounding it making it the only bookstore in our district. I want it to be an inclusive space that the local community can come together and share ideas, knowledge, and stories. the pandemic really took a toll on our small town increasing the homeless percentage a considerable amount and driving local stores out of business. We are recovering with the help of the members within our community and the "Aloha" spirit. I am going to have a local author spotlight of the month to support and encourage local talent. local artist can also use it as a platform to showcase their work as consignment items. we are also providing tutor Tuesdays to junior high and high school students to better their education. I am looking to partner with schools and libraries on the east side of Hawaii to bring high-quality pieces of literature to our island.
