Hope Night-- AKA: Inauguration Night
Mr. Rogers once said in an interview: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping. To this day, especially in times of “disaster,” I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers—so many caring people in this world.”
I am currently organizing an interfaith, bipartisan paper lantern lift off to take place at any church, non-profit, business or organization of any kind that believes in celebrating diversity and actively trying to keep ALL people in our beautiful country safe, uplifted and whole. If a group of people can agree that they believe in love, then I am encouraging them to set off paper lanterns together on inauguration night.
Hope Night will LIGHT UP our city with little beacons of hope- little demonstrations from all the helpers.
In addition to lighting up the sky on inauguration night, I also want to infuse social media with posts about the lantern lift off to help break up the mud slinging, fear mongering and hate speech that will no doubt be rampant in people's social media feeds this Inauguration. So, I'll be encouraging all participants to post on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram with the following: #HopeNight, #BeTheChange and #SafeZone
I'll also be keeping a registry of participants so at the end of this, we can have a list of love-filled churches, businesses, etc, for everyone needing to "look for helpers" post-inauguration.
In my perfect world, Hope Night would be a recurring event every anniversary of Inauguration night for the next 4-8 years.
I don't have a website yet, but that is coming soon!
