A Propos
We are open to any creative idea that would "surprise and delight" our community and make Orlando a more AWESOME place. Our first award was in July 2013. Awards have gone to . . .
Panorama (disposable cameras randomly found by passers-by and returned with their views of life - photos printed for an exhibition) InSPIRE: composition for brass players on rooftops and spires calculated for the amount of time it takes a note to reach the Lake Eola plaza. Burrow Press' 15 Views of Orlando (15 authors writing about Orlando and taking cues off of the other writer's story) MTS Crew (murals) Jazz on Edge Unplugged (pop-up musicians in outdoor public places) Light Up MSO (battery LED lights for the Maitland Symphony Orchestra) Fish Chairs (custom-designed chairs placed where people fish) Creative City Project (a night when Downtown Orlando is filled with art and performance) IDEAS for ARTS (pressure-washing artistic designs on dirty walls and sidewalks) Sing-Song, String-Along (instruments and teaching in classical music for low income student National Dance Day Orlando - free classes throughout downtown Orlando If Parramore Could Talk - kids creating 3 foot inspirational signs, photographing them in their low-income neighborhood and participating in the Brookly Art Library.
We DO NOT fund private businesses, social services or contributions to ongoing programs where we would just be one of the funders or contributors. Give us something NEW and INNOVATIVE that will MAKE AN IMPACT on UNSUSPECTING people. (not just awesome for you personally)
If you would like to discuss your idea to see if it meets the Awesome standard, feel free to call Dean Terry Olson, 407-491-4663.
