Homeless Backpacks
I'm the Vice President of the Kenai Peninsula Reentry Coalition Board of Directors. I'm also a survivor and I have dedicated my life (quite by chance) to ensuring that what I went through doesn't have to happen to others. Please check out the link above to read an in-depth plan for my project. Here is my shorter version:
We at Kenai Reentry Coalition(KPRC) serve those re-entering the communities in Kenai Peninsula Borough from incarceration. What often happens upon release is reentrants are left without some of their most basic needs being met, such as housing and food. Although KPRC is in the start-up phase, we are working hard to ensure that these needs are met. Thankfully, through some funding from DHSS, we are able to provide case management services and get reentrants into housing and treatment faster.
Unfortunately, some of the MOST basic necessities, like hygiene items and laundry detergent, are often forgotten when funding is being doled out. This project will work to ensure that personal hygiene items, transportation vouchers, and laundry vouchers will be ready to go in backpacks given upon release.
We will leverage donated items and funding from our Recidivism Reduction grant against these funds for the purpose of sustainable success of this project.
