City Visions is about helping residents see their own environment as a creative work of art. Conceptual artist and experience designer Thomas Van Hout plans on placing ~50 teleidoscopes all around the city for people to discover and enjoy. A teleidoscope is like a kaleidoscope except instead of looking at beads, glitter or glass in an object cell, a teleidoscope uses the world around you as a subject. Through the scopes people will see trees, buildings, friends, flowers, and their surroundings arrayed in beautiful mandalas. The project encourages people to explore parts of the city they haven't visited or return to old paths with new purpose. The project will be united through the hashtag #CityVisionsPGH enabling people to find new scopes and share their experiences more broadly.
