FIRST FRIDAY: Express Yourself w/ The LGBTQ Youth
The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) San José is throwing an outdoor FIRST FRIDAY: Express Yourself w/ The LGBTQ Youth Space! This event celebrates Silicon Valley Pride with the return of ICA First Fridays on S. 1st Street in front of the ICA!
As part of the South FIRST FRIDAY Art Mrkt, the August First Friday with the ICA and the LGBTQ Youth Space will be a celebration of identity and individuality. This event will demonstrate the deep ties art has to many other aspects of culture and the art and creativity in our San José community. Highlights include a full drag show put on by the LGBTQ Youth Space and an array of hands-on art activities, such as makeup tutorials, painting demonstrations, and a photobooth.
With the help of our collaborators and South First Fridays, we will transform S. 1st Street into a community-organized and activated social hub that will encourage dialogue and fun after nearly a year and a half of closures due to COVID-19.
The FIRST FRIDAY: Express Yourself w/ The LGBTQ Youth Space is Saturday, August 6th from 5-9pm, FREE and open to the public.
Program includes:
-Drag show by the LGBTQ Youth Space
-Drag Makeup demonstration
-Hands-on art projects such as painting and crafts
-DJ music developed by the LGBTQ Youth Space that celebrates Silicon Valley Pride
-Photo booth and dress up station
-Utilizing the public art and park outside our organizations to celebrate our San José community
The Awesome Foundation Grant will help fund supplies for the FIRST FRIDAY: Express Yourself w/ The LGBTQ Youth Space. The grant will be used for artist stipends, performance stipends, and materials for our free hands-on activities for our community participants. This event allows us to bring awareness to our local LGBTQ Youth Space, who provide mental health, counseling, and prevention programs for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and ally youth and young adults ages 13-25 who live in Santa Clara County.
