This proposed project is specifically aimed to target African American/African Ancestry young girls ages 6-10. I have noticed that there aren't many developmental programs for this age group; most that I come across target children ages 11-18 or 13-18. I want to show the younger kids there is something for them too, something new to get exposed to within their culture and we see them! The vision is for the workshop to teach about how to incorporate Creativity (Kuumba) in their lives. Kuumba is one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa celebrated in our culture. The primary focus will be on leadership, financial education (economics), social skills, education, and overall health & wellness. We will also incorporate exploring coping skills such as art (painting, coloring, drawing, etc.) & West African Dancing.
