Seaford Secondary College Japan Odyssey

This year we will be taking 15 Seaford Secondary College students to Japan! The cohort consists of 4 male students and 11 female students. We have a diverse range of year levels attending from years 9-12. We also have one indigenous female student attending along with one male guardianship student.
Many of these students haven’t ventured out of the Fleurieu let alone travelled overseas. Students will get the opportunity to live with an authentic Japanese family for 13 days whilst attending school daily at Morioka Chou High School which is our sister school. They will be fortunate enough to have a few days in Kyoto, Tokyo and they will also be spending a day in Disneyland. This experience provides such a unique cultural experience for our students, as they learn the Japanese way of life, immersing themselves into their culture.
Morioka Chuo High School is our sister school over in Japan. Each year approx. 40 students stay within the Fleurieu area with home stay families. Home stay families take our international guests as well as our teachers into our local area, promoting our tourism industry within the Fleurieu Peninsula. Each year we ensure they visit Victor Harbor, undertake strawberry picking at Mount Compass, attend the Willunga Markets to purchase and sample local products such as the local jams and also visiting the local eateries and cafes, promoting our tourism industry to our international friends.
On the weekends the school takes the international teachers to our local wine region, this is always a hit for our guests, and they often purchase our local wines and enjoy the days meeting and greeting locals within our community.
Families take the students to the souvenir shops to purchase KI products and also invite them to purchase Indigenous souvenirs to take home a keepsake of our Indigenous culture. As a school we take the students on various excursions including the wildlife experience at Urimbirra, Victor Harbor and also Port Noarlunga Aquatics.
