I’m creating a lifesize sculpture that is my version of the Gloucester fisherman “man at the wheel” statue. It is completely made up of scrap metal including many hundreds of pounds of fishing gear from the 90 foot trawler boat out of Gloucester “Midnight Sun”. When the gear including shackles, swivels, hammerlocks, links, hooks, chains and more becomes stiff or unusable for fishing it has to be replaced.
I use all the worn gear I can get for nautical projects. The best thing about this project is that it’s going be at a place we all know in Gloucester where everyone can see it.
