Hex Girlfriends: An Improvised Fantasy Podcast

Hex Girlfriends is an improvised fantasy-comedy podcast created by Ella Maria and Cole Dille. “Join exes Liv and Arlo as they help the monsters and cryptids of their town of Bloodsburrow navigate love and life problems... and try to figure out their own complicated relationship along the way.”

Hex Girlfriends is an improvised show that will highlight Toronto’s improv comedy community, one that both of performers are very entrenched in! It features two lesbian characters as the hosts, a witch and a werewolf respectively, who are trying to work through their emotional baggage, in a monster town full of all kinds of creatures.

The podcast will mix real-life problems and emotions with its fantasy setting, that will expand in every episode, talking about festivals, fairs, and all kinds of events happening in the town. Hex Girlfriends will use several different segments, like tarot, dream interpretation, and horoscopes to explore interpersonal relationships.

Cole and Ella met in Toronto's Bad Dog Theatre’s Improv classes back in Spring 2024, both queer improvisers in Toronto, bringing this inherently queer project about two fictional ex-girlfriends to life. Support from the Awesome Foundation will cover the digital and physical infrastructure for launching the podcast and allow Hex Girlfriends to pay guest performers.
