à la Dada

À la Dada is a creative arts project with a mission to produce eccentric cabarets that showcase both professional and amateur artists in unconventional spaces.

The cabarets are open to all forms of creative work, including but not limited to music, theater, dance, improvisation, costume design, performance art, fine art, engineering, spoken word, etc. On average, 50-75% of performers in an À la Dada cabaret are professional artists who are paid by the organization. The rest are amateurs, volunteers, and audience members who wish to participate and showcase their work. Think of a cross between a recital and an open mic.

This open-concept ethos is directly inspired by the Dadaists and Dada movement of the early 20th century and the cabarets produced in Cafe Voltaire. Any and all art was welcome then, so any and all art is welcome now. À la Dada expands upon the original cabaret structure by inviting community participation and blurring the lines between audience and performer.

The first cabaret will take place on April 5th 2025 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Ypsilanti, MI featuring local artists and volunteers!
