Community fridge by Melanin Unchained
Food insecurity is a threat to the health and well-being of our community. According to the 2016 Pattern for Progress profile, the city of Newburgh is a food desert, with over 1/3 of the population living more than a mile from the nearest supermarket. We want to introduce a community fridge program that will offer food to those with limited or no access to supermarkets. We want to help support our neighbors who struggle with the basic human right of having healthy food to eat each day in a way that allows anyone to take what they need without having to ask for it. The community fridge will also provide a venue for unity and ongoing social service within the city.
