The Pot Calling the Kettle Black
The Pot Calling the Kettle Black, is a play set in Poughkeepsie NY, during the aftermath of the George Floyd murder by police. The play centers around a conversation between an interracial couple, after the wife, who is the person of color in the relationship, returns home from protests. The couple is challenged as individuals by a host of characters represented by an on stage "T.V.", that attempt to pull each of them to different sides of a culture war. The play was developed along with the actors, Soyal Smalls-Moore, Sui the Producer, William Derieux, and Andres San Millan. The purpose of our project is to inspire meaningful and productive conversations about race relations in the United States, and the intersection of race with class and politics. At the end of our performances we have had some really good talks and we want to expand our audience and continue to promote love and understanding.
