Taarifa Readers and Storytellers
Research shows that children from underserved communities are at a higher risk of entering kindergarten with poor language and literacy skills. When children hear more words from being to and engaging them in conversations, the greater the language and literacy development.
Taarifa Readers and Storytellers (TRS) aims to increase early literacy awareness among families who care for children birth to eight years of age. TRS also engages families from various and diverse cultures, dispelling misconceptions, stereotypes, prejudice, or negative beliefs about another culture or race.
Through sharing books, meals, stories, music and other diverse activities, children learn that there are more similarities that families share than differences.
